Valeriano Hernández-Tavera was born in 1957. He obtained a Bachelor Degree in Law from the Universidad Privada de Navarra in 1979, and at the end of his studies obtained the Prize for Outstanding Merit and the Prize for the Law Degree at a National Level. He also obtained a PhD in Law with an award for special distinction.
He has been practising law since 1979 and has been the Correspondent in Spain for the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe for more than fifteen years. He worked as a State Lawyer from 1982 to 2000. He was a member of the Legal Service of the State Treasury and of the Audiencia Nacional as well as a Deputy Director of the State Counsel Office. He also lectured on Procedural Law in the Complutense University of Madrid between 1995 and 1997.
He is the author of four books and numerous legal articles.
