Valeriano Hernández-Tavera was born in 1957. He obtained a Bachelor Degree in Law from the Universidad de Navarra in 1979, obtaining the Prize for Outstanding Merit and the National Prize for the Law Degree. He also obtained a PhD in Law with an award for special distinction.
He worked as a State Lawyer from 1982 to 2000. He was a member of the Legal Service of the State Treasury and of the Audiencia Nacional as well as a deputy Director of the State Counsel Office.
He has been practising law since 1979 and has been the Correspondent in Spain for the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe for fifteen years.
